Guess Who’s Back? Anderson is 4-0

Indiana high school basketball hits different.  And on this Friday night in December, two titans with rich basketball history faced off in a legendary basketball city. Both the Anderson Indians and Arsenal Technical High School came in undefeated at 3-0.  Only one left with an unblemished record, and on this night, it was the Indians, who took at 79-69 victory.

“I felt like our team was gonna be ready”, says head coach Donnie Bowling, who is in his second season and looking to bring Anderson back.  Well, they’re back indeed.

Junior guard Ahmere Carson, who is originally from Chicago, lead the Indians with 24 points, but it was no one man band.  Junior wing Ja’Quan Ingram had 19, Seniors Kedrick Anderson, Sean Paige and Ty Wills with 12, 11 and 9 points, respectively.  After going 11-11 last year and 25-1 over the summer, this team was ready for the doubters and to make a statement.

“People were doubting us, but we wanted to show people what we are going to do”, says Kedrick Anderson, a 6’5″ senior wing.

Anderson led this game mostly throughout and took a 22-11 lead after one and a 38-32 lead at halftime.  The Indians started the game in a zone defense, and they caught Tech on a poor shooting night.  The Titans, who usually have snipers all over the court, were just 7-36 from the 3-point line for the game.

The biggest difference was Carson, a 6’2″ point guard, who kept the Indians steady and made several plays throughout the game.  Known as a 3-point shooter, he only took two 3s on the night (hitting one) but controlled the tempo and got to the rim at will.  “Ahmere can play even better”, says Bowling of his star guard.  College coaches should be coming his way.

Even with the loss, Tech kept fighting.  Reggie Bass scored 19 points (12 in the second half) and kept them in it.  Dayveon Turner chipped in 15 and Rasheed Jones 12.

Anderson is currently ranked 15th in the state with Tech at #7.  Look for the Indians to head up the charts and for the Titans to remain in the Top 10.  Both have served notice in this early season that they are teams capable of making deep runs in March.
