Rising Stars – Boys 2019

Here are some more PLAYERS that easily could have been in the Top 20 and may end up there.  Indiana is loaded with talent and these players are athletic scholarship worthy:

Pictured from left: Caleb Redman, Willie Jackson, Terry Hicks

David Bell, 6’3″ Shooting Guard, Warren Central

Offers:

Bell is one of the best athletes in the state and one of the nation’s top wide receiver prospects for football, but if he wanted a basketball career, he could have it.  One of the best defenders in the state, Bell has started since his sophomore year and hit one of the biggest clutch shots in state tournament history in the 64-62 victory over New Albany to end Romeo Langford’s season.  If I had to choose 3 players to go win the state of Indiana with in 2019, Bell would be one of those players.

Dawand Jones, 6’7″ Center, Ben Davis

Offers: Cleveland State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Kent State

Jones is BIG and plays big down low.  He is also a top football recruit at Offensive Tackle but he is nimble enough with footwork to give teams trouble in the paint.  If he wants a future in basketball, he could have one with some extra conditioning.  But he has a good motor and is tough to defend.

Ali Ali, 6’6″ Wing, East Noble

Committed to Akron

Ali is a great athlete who opened eyes playing for Spiece Indy Red over the summer.  He had D2 and NAIA offers but Akron came in and did their own homework and got themselves a real gem.

Jaivion Reid, 6’1″ Point Guard, Michigan City

I like Reid’s game.  He is a tough, pass first point guard who will defend and run your team.  He had had some good moments this spring playing for EG10 and is with the Silver squad for July.

Noah Applegate, 6’6″ Forward, Penn

State Rank: RS

Offers:

Applegate has college ready size and has a beautiful shooting stroke.  He has played tough for Spiece Indy Heat and helped in their run last year to the Peach Jam finals.

Simon Banks, 6’2″ Point Guard, Brebeuf

State Rank: Rising Star

Offers:

The multi-sport star Banks has played high level basketball for a long time and plays hard, especially on the defensive end.  He is a leader on the floor and has a nose for ball.

Craig Young, 6’5″ Wing, Fort Wayne Wayne

State Rank:  Rising Star

Offers:

Young is really athletic and runs the floor.  He has a high motor and plays really well in transition.  Has committed to play football at Ohio State.

Hayden Smithey, 6’5″ Wing, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger

Offers:

Smithey has the length and talent to go a long way.  I first noticed him last year when he made our INTHEGYMHOOPS All Star game last Fall.  He can shoot it and put it on the floor some and can use his long frame to block shots.

Amari Sherrod, 6’4″ Wing, Bowman Academy

State Rank: RS

Offers:

Sherrod is a tough, physical player that plays hard and is always around the ball.  He had some good moments playing this summer for SYF Players on the Powerade circuit.

Isaiah Moore, 5’9″ Point Guard, Warren Central

State Rank: Rising Star

Offers:

Moore has always been one of the best shooters in the state and should gain some offers in the coming months.  Moving over to Warren Central for his senior season.

Cory Richards, 6’3″ Combo Guard, Franklin

Offers: Concordia. Midway

State Rank: Rising Star

Offers: Concordia

Richards is a good looking player who averaged 15.7 points last year for Franklin as a junior and is a clutch performer.  He is a heady player, who shoots the ball well and can also find teammates.

Wendell DeMeyers, 6’4″ Combo Guard, Traders Point

State Rank: RS

Offers:

I love DeMyers length and motor.  He can do a little bit of everything and stays around the ball.  Really good defender with great hands.  Handles well enough to play both guard positions and can guard multiple positions.  As he continues to work, he can be a real player.  Look for him to get mucho buckets at Traders Point as a senior.

Jesse Bingham, 6’6″ Wing, Warren Central

State Rank: RS

Offers:

Bingham is more of an interior player right now but he has the length and athleticism to play at the next level.    I say wing because if he can demonstrate a better handle and face up game, he will shoot up the list.  But he’s good now.

Brandon Vernon, 6’5″ Shooting Guard, Zionsville

State Rank: RS

Offers:

Vernon is also a top shooter with great size.  He can really got hot from outside and plays for EG10.

Justin Hensley, 6’4″ Shooting Guard, Cathedral

State Rank: Rising Star

Offers:

Hensley shot the ball well for Cathedral as a junior and was a big part of the City Title.  He can definitely shoot it but more than that, he moves really well without the ball and has a very quick release.  He was also getting to the rim off the dribble and in transition.  Made the game look real easy.  He could move up the list as he continues to put his game together.

Jakobie Robinson, 6’6″ Wing Warren Central

State Rank: Rising Star

Offers:

Robinson was a starter and key contributor to Warren’s 32-0 state championship run.  He is an athletic wing with some nice moves off the dribble and deep range.  He is an intriguing prospect.

Sam Devault, 6’9″ Power Forward, Evansville Memorial

State Rank: RS

Offers: IUPUI

Devault is a rising player with tons of size and potential.  He has the intangibles that you look for in a player.  He has nice touch around the rim and outside range.  With more time on the floor and weight, his recruiting will blossom.  Performed well INTHEGYMHOOPS Showcase.

Dexter Shouse, 6’4″ Shooting Guard, (MI)

Committed to Coastal Carolina

Shouse is an athletic player who had some nice moments at Lawrence North on a loaded team with D1 players.  When he is aggressive offensively, he can really score it in a variety of ways.  He just needs to continue to let loose.  Bright future.  Dad was also a top player at South Alabama and in Terre Haute.  Heading to Michigan for his senior year and committed to Coastal Carolina.

Noah Smith, 6’3″ Point Guard, Hamilton Southeastern

Committed to Indiana Wesleyan

Smith has all the tools – good length, quickness, ability to dribble and finish around the rim and he has demonstrated he can run a team.  All he needs now is more consistent shooting and overall scoring.  Potential elite defender.  Had several high assists games in spring and July to go with good scoring.

Kycia Washington, 6’1″ Point Guard, Howe

Washington is a good looking PG who can run a team, penetrate and knock down big shots.  Made First Team All-City this year as a sophomore and junior.  He could shoot up the list with another strong high school season

Landon Sprigler, 5’11” Point Guard, New Albany

State Rank: RS

Sprigler showed he really knew how to play the PG position at the INTHEGYMHOOPS camp in the last three years with his ability to get in the lane, make plays for others and knock down shots.  Lovely float game and was dominant at camp this year.

Wesley Jordan, 6’6″ Small Forward, Lawrence Central

State Rank: RS

This spot probably is not high enough for Jordan but unfortunately he is coming off an injury.  He was improving a lot.  He can battle inside and block shots.  He also has a long, athletic build that looks like it will expand even more.

Corey Sanders, 6’2″ Point Guard, Hammond Noll

State Rank: RS

Landers is a gifted player and plays very well in the open floor.  Was a Top 20 player at the INTHEGYMHOOPS camp in the past and had a great summer with SYF.  One to watch this year as a senior this season.  Superior athlete.

Maxwell Newman // 6’8″ Power Forward, Monrovia

Newman has as much potential as anyone on this list.  Size with ability to dribble some, pass and can shoot.  With more development, he could really be a player.  He has moved around some on the AAU circuit but is playing with EG10 this month.

James Franklin, 6’1″ Point Guard, Cathedral

State Rank: RS

Franklin can really score the basketball and demonstrated that the throughout the season for the Irish.  Helped lead the Irish to the coveted City Championship the last two years.  Franklin has an IUPUI offer.

jack townsend // 5’11” Point Guard, bloomington north

Townsend will likely shoot up this list and has played well for Bloomington North.

logan carter // 6’9″ center, evansville mater dei

Carter has what all programs would look for, which is size, and has some skill to go with it also.  Solid rebounder.

matt dove // 6’8″ forward, princeton

Dove is another big body down south to keep an eye on.

willie jackson // 6’0″ point guard, fishers

Jackson lives at the FT line and is a terror getting to the rim.  As he expands his shooting range, which he was doing over the summer, his recruitment should pick up.

caleb redman // 6’2″ Shooting Guard, Manual

Redman is one of my favorite players in the class of 2019 for shooting guards and he seems to get better every time I watch.  He is athletic, can play and score well in transition and has great shooting range.  Could shoot way up this list.

Terry Hicks // 6’5″ Wing, Fishers

Offers: Rose Hulman, Northern Michigan

Hicks is a definite player and will move up this list by the end of high school season.  Fishers will be sleeper team and Hicks will be a big reason why.

Rishard Balkom // 6’6″ Forward, Merrillville

Balkom has really great length and moves on the floor well.  He plays mainly in the post right now but has a nice mid range game also.  He should also move up this list in time.
