And The NEW #1 Team Is…Wildcats!

Spotlight, The Stars Report

The clash of the rival titans went down last night and Lawrence North came out on top by a score of 83-73 over #1 Lawrence Central.  The MIC Network Game Of The Week featured the top stars shining the brightest led by senior and Iowa commit Tony Perkins, who led LN with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. He put himself firmly into the Mr. Basketball discussion.

”I wasn’t worried about who’s better or this and that”, says Perkins, a 3-year starter for the Wildcats.  “I just wanted us to play as a team because that’s all that matters”.

And play as a team they did.  After spotting Lawrence Central a 12-2 lead out the gate lead by the shooting of senior guard Nijel Pack (9 points early), it was all Lawrence North the rest of the way as they held a 38-28 lead at the half and never let Lawrence Central get closer than 7 points in the second half.

Chipping in for the Wildcats were junior point guard Shamar Avance with 20 points, 10 in the pivotal 3rd quarter, and 6’7” junior DJ Hughes with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Hughes, who holds several mid major offers, appreciates the breakthrough win.

“Ever since my freshman year, we haven’t beaten them so it feels good to finally get that win, says Hughes. Lawrence Central was led by Pack with 20 points and Louisville commit DeAndre Davis with 19.

Lawrence North came in ranked #3 in the state, but after impressive road wins over #4 Jeffersonville and now #1 Lawrence Central, they have laid on the court claim to the #1 spot.

“We want to win state and be the top team in March”, says Perkins. Wednesday night proves that they are well on their way.
