Ben Davis wins the most games for an undefeated team in Indiana basketball history on its way to a emphatic state title.
It’s hard enough staying focused enough to win a state title. To do it in undefeated style while beating multiple opponents 2 or 3 times in a season? Classic. These Giants were just that and capped a Class 4A title with a 53-41 win over Kokomo, its second win over them this season.
Ben Davis was lead by 6’9″ Valpo commit Zane Doughty with 20 points and 8 rebounds on 10-13 shooting. His defensive assignment for the night? Slow down top 5 in the nation Flory Bidunga, the 6’10” phenom, who Kentucky, Michigan State, Indiana, Michigan, Auburn and more were sitting courtside to see. As has happened on every occasion this year, Doughty was tough in his matchup, although Bidunga still went for 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Mark Zackery and Shaun Arnold were also big for the Giants with 16 points and 12 points, respectively.
“It’s all God”, said coach Don Carlise as he flashed his motivational ring, a runner-up ring from 2019. It was his first season as Ben Davis fell to Carmel. No one was beating the Giants this night or any of the other 32 nights this season.
